About Me:
Early in my professional career I worked as a Paramedic in a very busy 911 system. It was during my work as a Paramedic that I witnessed the variety of human experiences, from the celebratory (such as child-birth) to the traumatic, which impact the psyche from birth to old age. After nearly ten years of working as a practitioner of physical healing, I intentionally turned my attention to the psychological aspect of experience.
Over the past 6 years’ I have worked with adults, children, adolescents, and families dealing with depression, conflict, anger, abuse, trauma, grief, loss, addictive behaviors, anxiety, major transitions, cultural conflicts and relationship issues. More specifically, I worked in the public education setting for where I was largely responsible for helping students, individually and in group settings, work through the particular psychological issues that affected their academic performance. Throughout this work I specialized in supporting diverse minority populations and community building.
During my work as a community liaison and counseling practicum supervisor I completed my Master’s Degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. My counseling training was specifically geared toward integrating several counseling modalities and techniques, such as: Client-Centered psychotherapy, Gestalt Psychotherapy, and using meditative and contemplative practices for self-reflection and personal growth. The integration of these various psychotherapeutic practices has led me to develop an effective and integrative counseling style.
